27th Apr 7.30pm €10 / €12

We are delighted to announce a fantastic lineup for this year’s Joinery Fundraiser on April 27th in The Grand Social. Following on from the success of last year’s event we again feature performers, who in many respects embody The Joinery’s idiosyncratic values, none more so than Donal Dineen who will perform a live set with Niwell Tsumbu along with visuals from the marvellous Hector Castells.

Joining them on the night will be two of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last five years in Ireland – Legion of Two and Patrick Kelleher and his Cold Dead Hands. We are also delighted to introduce Gentleboy and The #1’s.

This event is a fundraiser – monies raised will be used to allay some of the operating costs inevitable with running an alternative art space in Dublin. Tickets priced €12 (incl. booking fee) are available from www.tickets.ie

LEGION OF TWO
Legion Of Two is Alan O’Boyle and David Lacey. They are currently working on the follow up to their acclaimed album ‘Riffs’ which appeared on the Planet Mu label in 2009. Alan is best known for his work with Decal, while David has drummed with Dog Day, Dinah Brand and Cian Nugent’s band. The project sees the duo pit electronics against live drums and percussion for a dark, dense and noisy dirge. Huge basslines, slow pounding drums and feedback dominate. Industrial, dub and metal influences are shredded through old guitar pedals and cheap reverbs and reassembled into a driving and melodic force. Live appearances are quite rare and this is very possibly the only opportunity to see Legion of Two in 2012.

PATRICK KELLEHER AND HIS COLD DEAD HANDS
Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hand’s critically acclaimed album ‘You Look Cold’ was released on Osaka Recordings in 2009. A remix album followed in 2010 called ‘You Look Colder’. It featured remixes from the likes of Jape, Hunter-Gatherer and Legion Of Two. Second album Golden Syrup was released in 2011 again to significant acclaim, leading to a nomination for the Choice Album of the Year 2011. Moving on from the previous more DIY / lo-fi sound we now find them embracing a more gothic, minimal synth sound. Reminiscent of lesser known early 80’s electronics pioneers such as Robert Rental and John Foxx but also drawing comparisons to the hypnagogic pop of such contemporary artists as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and John Maus.

DONAL DINEEN
Kerryman Donal Dineen is a pioneering DJ, Photographer and Filmmaker. He contributes to (and curates) a multitude of music/film and visual events. He had a much loved Radio Show on Today FM – The Small Hours – which came to a glorious end on Dec 1st 2011. Donal’s Parish recording project, features Niwel Tsumbu, Liam O Maonlai, Ronan O Snodaigh, Andre Antunes, Peter Erdei and Aminah Dastan.

GENTLEBOY
Gentleboy is the Solo project of Dublin musician Paul Maguire. Gentleboy is about making pop music which experiments with electronic sounds, rhythms and various forms of vocal spewing, singing, screeches and hip hop mumblings. Gentleboy has played around in Dublin since 2011 at house parties, art events and venues like the Joinery and the Village.

#1’s
Dublin’s recent power pop sensations, nice boys with nice hair play a melodic mix of garage rock and sixties pop ballads!

HECTOR CASTELLS
“Slender, androgynous and slow; the self-inflicted Catalan behind the Xmas Soup Collective (along with Dineen&Guillermo) has been providing visuals for the last two years without being mentioned in any flyer, poster, webpage, or any such thing whatsoever… Such a remarkable achievement is no less memorable than the fact that his collective features plastic bags, rotten cardboard, neglected terrorists and dying doves…feed him, please.”
